Summary
Hong Kong is one of the wealthiest cities in the world. During the 1980s, the city outgrew its small airport. A new airport was necessary…but where could it be built? There was no room on the island. There was only one option, to build it 16 miles out at sea. That required the largest engineering project in history - building the longest bridges in the world, and massive new underwater tunnels, 22 miles of new superhighway, and high speed rail, to connect the airport to the land. Engineers thought the project would take decades, but they were given only seven years to complete it.
