Nano Wires into the Brain
Summary
Neuroscientists have long been trying to figure out the intricacies of the working of the brain. Rodolfo Llinas from the New York University and his team have made some progress towards achieving the objective of deciphering the activities in the brain. They intend to insert “nano-wires” with electrodes into the brain to extract information from neuro-electrical impulses. Wires that are smaller than the diameter of blood cells will be inserted through the vascular system until the electrodes can be very close to the nerve cells. On one hand, the technique provides a never before seen way of understanding the functioning of the brain while on the other hand, concerns regarding the use of this technique for malicious intents also exist.
