Smart Grid City
Summary
The world is confronted with dual problems of limited energy resources and increasing demand for the same. In times like these, the city of Boulder in Colorado has come up with a unique solution to address the issue of efficient usage of energy. Certain hi-tech companies have initiated a program called the “Smart Grid City” in Boulder to enable its residents to monitor their energy usage from across the world and also control it. As part of the project, “smart” boxes are installed on every power pole and power meters are installed in the houses of people. The meters indicate the energy usage and thus help the residents to effectively control it. Solar panels have been used to harness the solar energy to power cars and other utilities in the houses.
