Touch screens and styluses will become obsolete in the future. TechFest 2009 brought to the fore a technology which will enable you to interact with your favorite gizmos without touching them. People will be able to interact with a computer without using a keyboard and mouse. All you will have to do is hold an object in front of a webcam for a couple of seconds in order to “lock” it. You will then be able to use that object to write letters in the air. The machine will then recognize words and perform appropriate action. Microsoft has developed a prototype of the above technology that recognizes English and East Asian languages. According to Microsoft, this technology can have applications in interactive gaming consoles like Xbox360 and also in internet television. The technology can also be used to allow cell phone users to write short notes in the air and send them automatically to an e-mail address.
